Everglades

Everglades

With more than 6,000 square kilometres, the Everglades national park is the wildest part of the United States.

Found to the South of Florida, the Everglades National Park is the wildest and most untouched corner of the United States. It's a swampy land, counting for about 6,000 square kilometres, but seeming to stretch on forever.

The Everglades is one of the largest subtropical wetlands in the world. Due to its wild beauty and the huge number of exotic animals which can be found there, the Everglades have been decided a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a Biosphere Reserve, and a Wetland of International Importance.

Here you can find lush vegetation covering almost everything, with swampy lands covered by tall, fine grass which moves in the wind, waving a greeting to each and every visitor.

To really get to know the Everglades, you should take a tour with some of the tens of companies that work in the area. As you head down Route 41, you'll even begin to see signs for crocodile farms.

Visit a crocodile farm

Thanks to the thin covering of water, the only way to get to know the Everglades is on board a hovercraft, and the first thing you'll do when you reach the farm is take a ride around the swamps looking for crocodiles and alligators!

And if that has made you hungry, in the farm restaurant you'll have the opportunity to try some of the delicious dishes made from the local wildlife: crocodile hamburger for example!

Then, after eating you can see one of the crocodile shows that take place on the farm, as well as take photos up close.

Don't Forget!

There are three things you shouldn't forget on your tour of the Everglades: bug spray, sun screen, and a hat. Believe us, you're going to need all three.

Unmissable

The magnificent landscapes, wild creatures, and zipping around the swamps on a hovercraft, are unmissable attractions that you can only try in a handful of places around the world. Don't be afraid to leave the beaches behind for a day, the Everglades is the place to try something a little different.

If you haven't rented a car, or you would prefer to be picked up, you can simply sit back, relax and take an organized day trip, starting from US$ 60.
